One of my 30 Before 30 goals is to improve my photography skills. People always say that practice is the best way to improve something – but sometimes I think formal instruction is the way to go. A few years ago, I enrolled in a photography class in DC and learned a ton – like what shutter speed means. So, this summer I’m taking another photography class at the local community college.
Our first assignment was to take 6 photos of anything. I don’t do very well with open ended assignments like that – especially when I don’t know many people or places around here. I kept asking Russell about interesting landscapes or buildings, but all he could ever think of were either crops or weeds. I decided to embrace that and take photos of weeds and other things on the side of the road, with the hopes of creating something pretty out of plants that are so often overlooked as a nuisance.
