Russell and I both love sitting on the beach. For like two days. And then we gotta go do something more active. So, we took a boat to the mainland, took a bus to the river, and then another boat up a river through the jungle for a little hiking.

Here’s what we saw.

The river flowed right through the middle of the thick, lush jungle. The water was actually crystal clear, just a little brackish. In the water, we saw little baby crocodiles:

And swinging from the trees, we saw a monkey. The monkey expected food. So, we paid him in watermelon.

And there were so many birds everywhere. I’m very afraid of birds, so I was thankful I had a zoom lens for these pictures!

Russell isn’t quite as scared of birds as I am…

The trees and flowers and plants were really neat too. Very different than the West Texas landscape!

And this little flower was the national flower of Belize: the black orchid. I think bluebonnets are a little prettier!

Parts of the rain forest get 200 inches of rain each year. So, they have some of the biggest trees, including palm trees with the largest branches.

It was by far my favorite part of our vacation! When we go back to Belize, we will definitely spend several days in the jungle before heading to the beach.

Julia, what kind of camera do you use? I need to get my hands on one of those, whatever it is. You take beautiful photos!

Thanks! It’s a Nikon D60 – nothing too fancy. I’m hoping to get a new camera soon, though; I keep dropping hints to the hubs.
